You're right in that the 'old' Delay is mostly obsolete. Also about the main difference being in programming them. However, the ADG does not chain like the old Delays. Putting four ADGs in a row can only give about a 10 second delay - they do not multiply, they can only add. Four ADGs will give a 13 second delay. So, if you want a really long delay and don't want to use a counter (a much better way), then the old Delays may use fewer gates overall.
