The group was getting attacked by werewolves. Someone saw that regular wolves turned into werewolves on full and new moon nights. The player was a skilled hunter, and it was noticed that the meat would attract predators such as wolves. So, the player was blamed for drawing in werewolves with the meat from his kills. The group didn't want him to cause anything else troubling, so they got away asap and left the player behind? Maybe?
